Medical Sheep's Wool Overlay

Sheep's Wool maintains the optimal body temperature, providing constant warmth to your muscles throughout the night. The highest-quality 100% pure Sheep's Wool Fabric comes in four wool pile densities: two non-health densities of 550 grams and 700 grams and two health densities of 850 grams and 950 grams.

FOR NON-HEALTH PURPOSES:
Sheep's wool pile density is 550 grams or 700 grams.  We recommend the 550 grams for those who are happy with their current mattress and the 700 grams for those who like it but need more cushioning/softness.

FOR HEALTH PURPOSES:
We have two healthy wool densities: 850 grams (1" wool pile) and 950 grams (1/2" wool pile woven between 1" wool pile).  The 950 gram is exclusive to Soul Comfort Sheep's Wool & Hemp.  We also recommend the 850-gram and 950-gram for those who aren't happy with the cushioning/softness of their mattress.

When using our Medical Sheep's Wool Overlay on a double, queen, or king bed, please indicate in the comment section if it will be used on a hospital bed. We will include two additional elastic straps with Velcro on both sides of the overlay to prevent buckling and relieve pressure points. By default, single or twin sizes come with extra elastic Velcro cross bars. All of our mattress overlays include four fitted elastic straps on each corner.

What is the Sheep Wool Fabric:

•  100% sheep wool fiber knitted into a nylon grid and stabilized with an acrylic compound for washability and durability. The sheep wool is natural white wool. The benefit of wool for the body lies in the wool fiber, not the hide.
  • * Why is there a nylon grid? Is it similar to the carpet kits we made as kids? It maintains its shape better than cotton and wool; it doesn't fray and is durable. Nylon is commonly blended with wool in socks for added strength. The sheep are shorn repeatedly, and since nylon is renewable and sustainable, it complements the wool well. The acrylic polymer solution was created in Germany, a country with high standards for full machine washability. It has been used in the drapery industry for decades, and no allergies have been reported; it is a most favorable combination with sheep wool fabric. The gift to the body is in the wool fiber and is the surface the body lays on. This way, we get to enjoy the properties of the wool fiber, the sheep get shorn and keep their life, and we meet infection control standards,

Wool products are especially beneficial for people with restricted mobility. All our Health & Palliative Care products are made with 1” pile health density Sheep Wool Fabric and are washable up to 70 degrees Celsius. Hanging them to dry is preferred, but you can put them in the dryer. Only dry up to 85 %. Wool loves moisture. If you over-dry the sheep wool overlay, it may knob to the point that with brushing, it may not come out. Our Wool products also meet Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC Canada) Guidelines.
