Why Choose a Medical Sheep wool Seating Mat?

When sitting for extended periods, many people experience discomfort and pressure points, especially in the coccyx area. This can lead to aches, pains, and even long-term health issues. Fortunately, there is a solution that can provide relief and improve overall comfort: breathable seating pads.

One of the key benefits of breathable seating pads is their ability to alleviate sitting discomfort by reducing pressure points on the body, particularly in the coccyx region. The unique design of these pads helps distribute weight evenly, relieving pressure and preventing the build-up of tension in specific areas. This can significantly reduce the risk of developing chronic pain or discomfort associated with prolonged sitting.

Another important feature of breathable seating pads is their ability to promote breathability. Unlike most surfaces, made from synthetic materials that don't allow air to circulate, these pads are designed for proper airflow. This breathability helps regulate temperature and moisture, preventing the accumulation of sweat and bacteria. Breathable pads provide a healthier and more comfortable sitting experience by keeping the seating area cool and dry.

It's worth noting that the materials used in breathable seating pads play a crucial role in their effectiveness. Natural materials like wool and hemp are known for their breathability and moisture-wicking properties. These materials allow air to flow freely, preventing the discomfort caused by trapped heat and moisture. Additionally, their natural resistance to bacteria helps maintain a hygienic seating environment.

When choosing a breathable seating pad, it's essential to consider the specific needs and preferences of the individual. Factors such as thickness, density, and size can all impact the level of comfort provided. Additionally, it's essential to ensure that the pad is compatible with the seating surface and can be securely attached to prevent slipping or shifting.

In conclusion, breathable seating pads offer a practical and effective solution for alleviating sitting discomfort and promoting overall well-being. Their ability to reduce pressure points, regulate temperature, and prevent the accumulation of sweat and bacteria make them an excellent choice for anyone seeking a more comfortable and hygienic sitting experience. Invest in a high-quality, breathable seating pad today and enjoy the benefits of improved comfort and health.

What is the difference between sheepskin and sheep wool?

Sheepskin is the hide of the animal and includes the wool attached to the hide. In a sheepskin, the wool remains attached.

Sheep wool is the fibre sheared off the sheep and used to make various wool products. At Soul Comfort, we use a sheep wool fabric to manufacture most of our products.

What is sheep wool fabric?

The fabric used in our products is a combination of wool fibre (sheared off the sheep), a nylon grid and a medical grade acrylic liquid stabilizer. It is made using a process that takes the loose wool and ‘knits’ it into the nylon grid. Then, the acrylic is used to stabilize the wool in place and create a flat surface by which the fabric can be cut. This results in a material that has the look of a sheepskin, without the hide of the animal. As a result, the wool is machine washable.

General care:

Expect a small amount of shedding when the product is new as there will be some loose fibres. You can machine air fluff (no heat) for five minutes to remove excess fibres. Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight.

Over time and with more use, wool fibres will naturally bind together creating a more ‘clumped’ look. This change in the look does not affect the performance of the wool. You will still receive all of the natural and beautiful benefits. If you prefer a fluffier look, you can brush the product with a metal brush after laundering.

With care, your wool products will last many, many years.

Washing instructions:

Machine washable on delicate setting in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C) with a wool soap containing lanolin, such as Eucalan. Air drying is recommended. You may use a dryer WITHOUT HEAT to fluff your product. Remove from dryer before it dries completely (up to 85%). The excess moisture will not be felt and will disperse into the air quickly.

Wool is anti-microbial and will not need excessive laundering. To freshen your product, air it out by hanging outside when the air is moist, out of direct sunlight. When you bring it back inside, the wool will release the moisture into the air. This moisture redistribution results in a refreshening. If there is some staining or seepage from wounds, you can spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) and a disinfecting soap. Do not bleach.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.

Wool pad

This is exactly what I was looking for! It fits my recliner perfectly. I am very thin & bony so this mat is perfect. I especially like that it is washable. I might be purchasing a smaller one for my wheelchair as well. I haven’t washed it but I’ve had other sheepskins so I do know care. Thanks for making a great product! I’m sitting on it right now🙂

She loves it

I bought this for my mother (90 years old). She called when she received it to say how much she liked it. That it felt good when she sat down. That was about two weeks ago. Now that she's been using it for a couple of weeks I checked in with her again. She still loves it. She said it is very well made.
