100% Sheep's Wool & Machine Washable
Renewable & Sustainable
Sheep's wool is a loving and nurturing material, providing a feeling of being back in the womb. This natural insulator keeps a warm environment in the winter and provides excellent comfort during the summer. The body heat of the wool helps regulate the core temperature throughout the year while also aiding in relieving gas. The wool captures the familiar scent of the parents, offering comfort to the child when they are away and contributing to a secure upbringing. Perfect for use in various settings, such as daycare, with babysitters, or at grandparents' houses. This wool can absorb 30-40% of its weight in moisture. It effectively captures the body's natural perspiration during awake and sleeping hours (Transepidermal water loss), making it ideal for babies who sweat heavily.
The highest quality 100% pure Sheep's Wool Fabric comes in four wool pile densities: two non-medical densities of 550 grams and 700 grams & two medical densities of 850 grams and 950 grams. The mattress overlay is secured with four elastics, one in each corner.
FOR NON-MEDICAL PURPOSES:
The sheep's wool pile density is 700 grams. We recommend the 700 grams for those who are happy with their current crib mattress and the 700 grams for those who like their mattress but need more cushioning/softness.

What is the difference between sheepskin and sheep wool?
Sheepskin is the hide of the animal and includes the wool attached to the hide. In a sheepskin, the wool remains attached.
Sheep wool is the fibre sheared off the sheep and used to make various wool products. At Soul Comfort, we use a sheep wool fabric to manufacture most of our products.
What is sheep wool fabric?
The fabric used in our products is a combination of wool fibre (sheared off the sheep), a nylon grid and a medical grade acrylic liquid stabilizer. It is made using a process that takes the loose wool and ‘knits’ it into the nylon grid. Then, the acrylic is used to stabilize the wool in place and create a flat surface by which the fabric can be cut. This results in a material that has the look of a sheepskin, without the hide of the animal. As a result, the wool is machine washable.
General care:
Expect a small amount of shedding when the product is new as there will be some loose fibres. You can machine air fluff (no heat) for five minutes to remove excess fibres. Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight.
Over time and with more use, wool fibres will naturally bind together creating a more ‘clumped’ look. This change in the look does not affect the performance of the wool. You will still receive all of the natural and beautiful benefits. If you prefer a fluffier look, you can brush the product with a metal brush after laundering.
With care, your wool products will last many, many years.
Washing instructions:
Machine washable on delicate setting in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C) with a wool soap containing lanolin, such as Eucalan. Air drying is recommended. You may use a dryer WITHOUT HEAT to fluff your product. Remove from dryer before it dries completely (up to 85%). The excess moisture will not be felt and will disperse into the air quickly.
Wool is anti-microbial and will not need excessive laundering. To freshen your product, air it out by hanging outside when the air is moist, out of direct sunlight. When you bring it back inside, the wool will release the moisture into the air. This moisture redistribution results in a refreshening. If there is some staining or seepage from wounds, you can spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) and a disinfecting soap. Do not bleach.
FOR HEALTH PURPOSES:
We have two healthy wool densities: 850 grams (1" wool pile) and 950 grams (1/2" wool pile woven between 1" wool pile). The 950 gram is exclusive to Soul Comfort Sheep's Wool & Hemp. We also recommend the 850-gram and 950-gram for those who aren't happy with the cushioning/softness of their mattress.
All mattress overlays are fitted with four elastic straps.
Backing is an acrylic polymer solution for full machine wash-ability:
Wash at 70°C (158 F) (Infections Control Canada) and tumble dry up to 85%; the residual moisture will not be felt and will disperse quickly.
Why Choose a SheepWool Mattress Overlay?
When it comes to providing the best sleep environment for babies, choosing the right bedding is crucial. One option that has gained popularity in recent years is sheep wool bedding mattress overlays. These overlays offer numerous benefits for babies, ensuring a comfortable and healthy sleep experience.
Sheep wool is a natural material known for its exceptional properties. It is highly breathable, allowing air to circulate and regulate temperature effectively. This is especially important for babies, as they are more susceptible to overheating during sleep. Sheep wool bedding mattress overlays help maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature, reducing the risk of overheating and promoting better sleep quality.
In addition to its breathability, sheep wool is also naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites. This is particularly beneficial for babies who may have allergies or sensitive skin. Sheep wool bedding mattress overlays create a barrier against allergens, providing a clean and safe sleep environment for babies.
Furthermore, sheep wool has excellent moisture-wicking properties. It can absorb moisture from the baby's body, keeping them dry and comfortable throughout the night. This is especially beneficial for babies who may sweat during sleep or have diaper leaks. Sheep wool bedding mattress overlays help prevent discomfort and skin irritations caused by moisture build-up.
When choosing sheep wool bedding mattress overlays for babies, it is important to ensure they are made from high-quality materials. Look for overlays that are made from 100% natural sheep wool and have undergone rigorous testing for safety and quality. It is also recommended to choose overlays that are certified organic, ensuring they are free from harmful chemicals and pesticides.
When it comes to caring for sheep wool bedding mattress overlays, it is best to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Most overlays can be spot cleaned or gently hand washed using mild detergent. Avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive heat, as this can damage the wool fibers. Regularly airing out the overlay and keeping it dry will help maintain its freshness and longevity.
In conclusion, sheep wool bedding mattress overlays offer numerous benefits for babies. From their breathability and hypoallergenic properties to their moisture-wicking abilities, these overlays provide a comfortable and healthy sleep environment. When choosing sheep wool bedding mattress overlays, opt for high-quality, organic options and follow proper care instructions to ensure the best sleep experience for your baby.
