Therapeutic Properties of Merino Wool

Merino wool offers a unique combination of comfort, clinical protection, and sensory stability:

  • Promotes healing, relaxation, and restorative sleep

  • Provides cushioning and reduces pressure points

  • Helps prevent bed sores and skin breakdown

  • Maintains normal body temperature

  • Draws moisture away from the body

  • Reduces pain, swelling, and stress

  • Naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial

  • Supports nervous‑system calm through gentle tactile input and breathable warmth

Wool products are especially beneficial for individuals with restricted mobility, those who sleep in their chairs, and anyone at risk of pressure injuries.

All Soul Comfort medical wool products are made with 1" high‑density medical pile, washable up to 70°C, and meet Canadian National Infection Control Guidelines.

Why Choose a Merino Sheep Wool Pad for Your Chair

Many individuals sleep in their chairs, making pressure injuries a real concern. Wool offers a clinically superior combination of comfort and protection:

Breathability & Moisture Control

Wool fibres have a natural crimp that creates air pockets, allowing airflow and moisture wicking. This regulates body temperature and keeps the skin dry.

Pressure Relief

Wool’s natural elasticity distributes weight evenly, reducing pressure points and minimizing the risk of bed sores or pressure ulcers.

Antimicrobial Protection

Lanolin naturally discourages bacteria and dust mites, making wool a hygienic choice for sensitive skin or respiratory concerns.

Thermoregulation

Wool keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, maintaining a stable core temperature for uninterrupted rest.

Nervous‑System Support

Wool provides gentle sensory stability, reducing agitation, pain‑related tension, and discomfort for individuals who rely on their chair for long periods.

Choosing wool for your chair can significantly improve comfort, sleep quality, and skin health.

Sheepskin vs. Sheep Wool Fabric

  • Sheepskin = hide + wool attached

  • Sheep wool fabric = wool fibre shorn from the sheep, knitted into a backing

Our overlays use sheep wool fabric, making them washable, breathable, and humane.

What Is Sheep Wool Fabric?

Our wool fabric is made from:

  • 100% wool fibre (shorn from sheep)

  • Knitted into a nylon grid for strength and shape retention

  • Stabilized with a medical‑grade acrylic compound

This creates a washable, durable material that looks and feels like sheepskin without the hide.

Why a Nylon Grid?

  • Maintains shape better than cotton or wool alone

  • Prevents fraying

  • Adds strength (similar to wool socks reinforced with nylon)

  • Renewable and sustainable

  • Supports repeated shearing,  the sheep keep their life

Why an Acrylic Stabilizer?

  • Developed in Germany for high‑standard washability

  • Used safely for decades with no reported allergies

  • Allows the wool to be fully machine washable

  • Ensures the body lies on pure wool fibre, not hide

General Care

  • Expect light shedding at first, this is normal

  • Air‑fluff in the dryer (no heat) for 5 minutes to remove loose fibres

  • Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight

  • Wool may “clump” over time, this does not affect performance

  • Brush with a metal brush after washing if you prefer a fluffier look

With proper care, your wool products will last many, many years.

Washing Instructions

  • Machine wash on delicate in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C)

  • Use wool soap with lanolin (e.g., Eucalan)

  • Air dry recommended

  • Tumble dry without heat to fluff

  • Remove at 85% dry, remaining moisture dissipates quickly

  • Spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) eucalan soap or disinfecting soap

  • Do not bleach

Wool is naturally antimicrobial and does not require frequent washing. To freshen, hang outside in moist air, out of direct sunlight.

100% Natural

Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.

Biodegradable

Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.

Wrinkle Resistant

On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

100% Renewable

Australian sheep grow a new fleece annually, making wool a fully renewable natural fiber.
