These delightful dog mats are made with one-inch (1") high Sheep's wool pile fabric (700-gram density). They come with two backings: 100% cotton canvas or rubber, most helpful for slippery areas or your plastic kennel. They are highly durable and absorbent and accommodate all dog ages, from puppies to seniors. Kitty cat two!
You can have 20 different carpets in your house, but only one is made from wool, often where your pet sleeps. Our mats are also used for training and new litters.

ABOUT OUR WOOL FABRIC:
100% Australian sheep's wool fiber is knitted into a nylon grid and stabilized with an acrylic compound. The sheep wool is natural white wool. The benefit of wool for the body lies in the wool fiber, not the hide.
Why is there a nylon grid? It is similar to the carpet kits we made as kids. It maintains shape better than cotton and wool; it doesn't fray and is durable. Nylon is commonly blended with wool in socks for added strength. The sheep are shorn repeatedly, and since nylon is renewable and sustainable, it complements wool well. The acrylic polymer solution was created in Germany, a country with high standards for full machine washability. It has been used in the drapery industry for decades, and no allergies have been reported; it is a most favorable combination with sheep wool fabric. The gift to the body is in the wool fiber and is the surface the body lays on. This way, we get to enjoy the properties of the wool fiber, the sheep get shorn and keep their life, and we meet infection control standards.
What is the difference between sheepskin and sheep wool?
Sheepskin is the hide of the animal and includes the wool attached to the hide. In a sheepskin, the wool remains attached.
Sheep wool is the fibre sheared off the sheep and used to make various wool products. At Soul Comfort, we use a sheep wool fabric to manufacture most of our products.
What is sheep wool fabric?
The fabric used in our products is a combination of wool fibre (sheared off the sheep), a nylon grid and a medical grade acrylic liquid stabilizer. It is made using a process that takes the loose wool and ‘knits’ it into the nylon grid. Then, the acrylic is used to stabilize the wool in place and create a flat surface by which the fabric can be cut. This results in a material that has the look of a sheepskin, without the hide of the animal. As a result, the wool is machine washable.

General care:
Expect a small amount of shedding when the product is new as there will be some loose fibres. You can machine air fluff (no heat) for five minutes to remove excess fibres. Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight.
Over time and with more use, wool fibres will naturally bind together creating a more ‘clumped’ look. This change in the look does not affect the performance of the wool. You will still receive all of the natural and beautiful benefits. If you prefer a fluffier look, you can brush the product with a metal brush after laundering.
With care, your wool products will last many, many years.
Washing instructions:
Machine washable on delicate setting in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C) with a wool soap containing lanolin, such as Eucalan. Air drying is recommended. You may use a dryer WITHOUT HEAT to fluff your product. Remove from dryer before it dries completely (up to 85%). The excess moisture will not be felt and will disperse into the air quickly.
Wool is anti-microbial and will not need excessive laundering. To freshen your product, air it out by hanging outside when the air is moist, out of direct sunlight. When you bring it back inside, the wool will release the moisture into the air. This moisture redistribution results in a refreshening. If there is some staining or seepage from wounds, you can spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) and a disinfecting soap. Do not bleach.

it is the best option out there for a dog 🐩 or a cat 🐈⬛ to have their sleeping area lined with a high quality surface. We will be ordering a second mat shortly, so we can put it in our dog’s favourite sleeping areas. It looks good and seems that he prefers it over any other mats.

I’m obsessed with Soul Comfort’s products, and so are my two pugs. Excellently quality and super comfy slippers, comfort pads and dog mats. One of my pugs has anxiety, and will start howling every morning (earlier than we would like to get up) I put the soul comfort dog crate mat in her bed, and she hasn’t howled in over a week!! I often find her peacefully resting in her crate with the sheep’s wool mat throughout the day. She absolutely loves it! We bring the mats outside for morning coffee and our dogs can lie on the wool mats while getting grounded by the earth. We have them on our chairs too. The slippers are a delightful treat on my feet. I’m so happy we have found this company! I’m looking forward to trying more products.
Although I haven't yet washed the mat, it is well made and enticing to my somewhat picky senior dog. I look forward to seeing it wear well over time, with care. Service was prompt and clear communication made this an easy purchase. I love the fact that the mat was made in BC, Canada!
Our lab puppy loves her mats, one for crate and one for TV room lounging. My one complaint and reason for four stars is shrinkage. She had an accident, so I treated with deodorizer and then washed with wool soap in cold water, dried on our low heat for only five minutes to remove some moisture and it shrunk about two inches all the way around. So now does not fill the crate bottom as well. Ours has canvas backs.
