Sheep's Wool regulates the body temperature; it has a body heat of its own and keeps your muscles warm all night long; as a result, your body is not stiff in the morning.

Sheep's Wool is highly moisture-absorbent. It absorbs 30-40% of its weight in moisture and releases it into the air. If synthetics surround you, the body will become damp and the skin vulnerable. Lying in humidity creates the perfect environment for skin to break down and for bacteria to thrive.

Sheep's Wool is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Our comfort pads offer pressure redistribution, offloading, and bed sore prevention.  If an area of the body is reddened, you usually have a window of 24-36 hours before skin breakdown. If you place wool underneath the body, usually the coccyx, within 12 hours, you will see a 180 turn round to the area.

Sheep's Wool comfort pads are necessary for anyone who spends significant time sitting or sleeping, posts surgery, or is immobile.

Our comfort pads are made of the highest quality Merino sheep’s wool-pile fabric.  We offer three health densities, including one that is ideal for incontinence.

HEALTH DENSITIES:

  • White 850 GRAM - 1" wool pile; suitable for everyday use and/or patients without any skin breakdown
  • White 950 GRAM - 1/2" wool-pile interwoven with 1" wool-pile (exclusive to Soul Comfort); suitable for everyday use, patients who have had skin breakdown, and/or palliative care
  • Green XD1750 - 1/2" wool-pile interwoven with 1" wool-pile (exclusive to Soul Comfort); ideal for incontinence solutions, suitable for everyday use, patients who have had skin breakdown, and/or palliative care

We also offer custom-cut pads for any situation.

What is the difference between sheepskin and sheep wool?

Sheepskin is the hide of the animal and includes the wool attached to the hide. In a sheepskin, the wool remains attached.

Sheep wool is the fibre sheared off the sheep and used to make various wool products. At Soul Comfort, we use a sheep wool fabric to manufacture most of our products.

What is sheep wool fabric?

The fabric used in our products is a combination of wool fibre (sheared off the sheep), a nylon grid and a medical grade acrylic liquid stabilizer. It is made using a process that takes the loose wool and ‘knits’ it into the nylon grid. Then, the acrylic is used to stabilize the wool in place and create a flat surface by which the fabric can be cut. This results in a material that has the look of a sheepskin, without the hide of the animal. As a result, the wool is machine washable.

General care:

Expect a small amount of shedding when the product is new as there will be some loose fibres. You can machine air fluff (no heat) for five minutes to remove excess fibres. Keep away from high heat and direct sunlight.

Over time and with more use, wool fibres will naturally bind together creating a more ‘clumped’ look. This change in the look does not affect the performance of the wool. You will still receive all of the natural and beautiful benefits. If you prefer a fluffier look, you can brush the product with a metal brush after laundering.

With care, your wool products will last many, many years.

Washing instructions:

Machine washable on delicate setting in cool/lukewarm water (up to 70°C) with a wool soap containing lanolin, such as Eucalan. Air drying is recommended. You may use a dryer WITHOUT HEAT to fluff your product. Remove from dryer before it dries completely (up to 85%). The excess moisture will not be felt and will disperse into the air quickly.

Wool is anti-microbial and will not need excessive laundering. To freshen your product, air it out by hanging outside when the air is moist, out of direct sunlight. When you bring it back inside, the wool will release the moisture into the air. This moisture redistribution results in a refreshening. If there is some staining or seepage from wounds, you can spot clean with warm water (up to 70°C) and a disinfecting soap. Do not bleach.
