Wool is a completely natural fiber, produced year-round by over 68 million sheep in Australia. These sheep thrive on a simple diet of grass, water, fresh air, and sunshine.
Once wool fibers are discarded, they naturally break down in soil within a few years, gradually returning beneficial nutrients to the ground.
Merino wool is highly breathable, with fibers that can absorb significant amounts of moisture vapor and release it into the air through evaporation.
On a microscopic scale, each Merino wool fiber acts like a tiny spring, bouncing back to its original shape after being bent. This natural elasticity helps Merino garments resist wrinkling.

Most Soul Comfort wool products can be machine washed on a delicate cycle in cool or lukewarm water using a wool-safe soap containing lanolin. Air drying is recommended, or you can tumble dry without heat and remove the item when it is about 85% dry. Avoid bleach, high heat, and direct sunlight. Because wool is naturally antimicrobial, it usually does not need frequent washing and can often be refreshed by airing it outside away from direct sunlight.
4. How do I choose the right medical wool product?
Choose according to the area of the body that needs support and the level of cushioning or pressure relief required. For example, Soul Comfort offers mattress overlays for full-body pressure redistribution, seating and wheelchair pads for prolonged sitting, and specialized protectors for areas such as the heels, feet, knees, hands, and other sensitive areas. For wool density, 850 g / 1-inch pile is designed for pressure relief, moisture control, and skin protection, while the denser 950 g option provides additional cushioning for fragile skin, chronic discomfort, previous skin breakdown, or advanced/palliative care. Custom sizing is also available for certain products.

Knitting the Wool
Pure sheep wool is knitted into tubes, then opened into flat sheets for different fabric weights.

We trim the wool pile to a precise height. This defines the texture — plush and cozy or smooth and breathable — depending on its purpose.
